I was really, um, lean (ok, scrawny) all my life up to mid-30s. People teased me for being so skinny and in college, well-meaning (nosey) people tried to "save" me from anorexia/bulimia which I never had. It was aggravating and made me feel really bad about myself (like there must be something wrong with me even though there wasn't). <br />My 30s were filled with having and raising kids- that will mess with metabolism and has the inescapable side effects of maturing and not taking things for granted! Oh, and putting on about 40 pounds. When I came out to myself I found the freedom to work out, body build, run- become more 'me'. And I agree, we have to learn so much on our own and it's not (all) a bad thing. <br />I haven't gone through the big change yet (I'm 48 and dreading it).
